Section Open Session Call for Papers

In addition to an invited session, Sections also manage one open session at the annual meeting. The following sections have announced themes for their open sessions. Submissions to these units should conform to the announced theme.

Early Christian Theology in Protestant Thought

The Section on Theological Retrieval: Early Christian Theology in Protestant Thought seeks papers for its open session that will contribute to recent movements of theological retrieval by examining the biblical, historical, and/or theological themes evident in the Protestant retrieval of early Christian theology in theologians of the Reformation and successive generations (theology proper, theology of Scripture, Calvin, Lutheran retrieval of the fathers, Baptist retrieval of the fathers, Reformation commentaries on Romans, etc.). For the 2024 annual meeting, we are particularly interested in proposals that look at the retrieval of early Christian theologies of Scripture and/or reading strategies applied to Scripture.

Old Testament Theology

The Old Testament Theology section is seeking papers related to political theology that engage substantively with the Old Testament. The Old Testament has much to say about political systems, the execution of justice, God’s sovereignty over and through power structures, as well as living ethically in reference to such structures. Excellent papers on such topics will lead to a robust and relevant discussion
