This article summarized how Vladimir, Russia’s young Viking king, experienced a personal crisis that caused him to lose confidence in his pagan polytheism, so he decided to investigate the major world religions of his geopolitical world. Ambassadors (from other Eurasian nations) came to visit him, trying to convert him to their particular religion. This critical time in Russian history is called “the testing of the faiths”; only the Byzantine Greek representative provided a Biblical creationist presentation of his faith. In contrast, the representatives of the Roman Catholic system presented a religion of power politics and “churchianity”. Vladimir chose to align the Russian empire with Eastern Christianity, so that Russia and its cultural satellites have remained “more East than West” ever since, notwithstanding efforts of Peter the Great and Catherine the Great to undo the geopolitical consequences of Vladimir’s decision.
