In his Editio Princeps Mercati dedicates a space to discuss the relationship and textual profile of the last two columns of the Hexapla of the Psalms extant in Ra 1098 (Ambrosiano O. 39 sup.). His discussion is extensive and detailed. In this proposal the main objective is to review Mercati’s original question of whether the last column is Quinta or Theodotion.
This will be carried out by (1) a fresh examination of the text of the Ra 1098, (2) revisiting Mercati’s conclusions about the last two columns in Ra 1098, whether they conform to what is known about the Old Greek and Quinta respectively, (3) offering remarks regarding their textual profile in relation to one another, and (4) to determine the nature of the marginal readings that not infrequently accompany these two columns.
