Commentators generally acknowledge that the trumpets of Revelation 8–9 are patterned after the Exodus plagues. They are less likely, however, to note allusions to Genesis 1. In this paper, I argue that the use of Genesis 1 in the trumpets passage extends further than has been previously seen. I identify comprehensive verbal, thematic, and structural parallels to Genesis 1, and I also identify allusions to three OT judgments that model de-creations of Genesis 1. Foregrounding the use of Genesis 1 opens fresh interpretive insights into the trumpets passage.
