Description:

Description:

Popular physicist Paul Davies has long recognized the various problems inherent in the presuppositions of the scientific establishment, especially concerning its failure to account for the origin and nature of the universe and the existence of rational scientific laws. In response, Davies has postulated an “emergent” universe that is the cause of its own existence (via quantum mechanics and the role of the observer). This article examines Davies’ beliefs and his objections to a theistic God and argues that Davies’ explanation still falls short. Ultimately, a self-causing universe must still presuppose some sort of transcendent mechanism that allows for self-causation, and Davies’ own objections against a personal deity remain unconvincing.
