One of the major trends of Koran evangelical theology is an emphasis upon the theology of discipleship. The pioneering figure of Korean evangelical theology of discipleship is Han-Heum Oak, the founding pastor of Sarang Church, Seoul, South Korea. He laid the foundations of Korean evangelical theology of discipleship, and his theological impact has been tremendous among Korean evangelicals. In addition, Jung-Hyun Oh, the second senior pastor of Sarang Church, has been not only a faithful successor of Oak’s theology but also a creative theologian who have advanced Oak’s foundational insights into a theology of “teleios discipleship,” a more mature version of discipleship theology. On the basis of these initial insights, this paper will aim to evaluate and appraise these two theologians’ contributions to the consolidation of Korean evangelical theology of discipleship, examining their theological legacy and its future prospect.
