Raza Deshlosha, The Doctrine of the Three, a Tool for Jewish Evangelism: Jewish, Biblical Pre-Ch

Global Evangelicalism invokes the idea of the Gospel affecting the nations. Dr. Theresa Newell asks, “How have some theologians, particularly in reaction to the Holocaust, denounced mission to the Jews? How true to biblical teaching are their arguments?” Gerald Sigal, an anti-missionary Jewish author wrote, “This belief, called the Trinity, is not only diametrically opposed to Jewish belief, but is the very antithesis of the teachings of the Torah, the prophets, and the writings concerning the oneness of God.” Sigal’s argument against the Trinity is an oversimplification of Judaism’s core value of the Oneness of God. It is commonly held the distinguishing mark of Judaism, despite its diversity of expression, is universally recognized as belief in the singular oneness of God. Thus, the Trinity was birthed in the Christian religion, defended by the Patristics, and without such a framework, the Trinity does not exist. So goes the common misinterpretation. This paper will argue that this is simply not true about Judaism. It is a misnomer that Judaism sees God as a singular being. One of the greatest minds in Judaism, Dr. Michael Wyschogrod admits it is not so simple. Wyschogrod tells us that there is no other concept that requires more analysis in Judaism than Deuteronomy 6:4, and the answer lies in how one defines the Hebrew word: אחד. This paper will present the distinction between Biblical Judaism from the familiar Rabbinic religion understood today. The paper will argue that not only is רזא דשלושא a legitimate Jewish and Biblical doctrine, but that it is also a useful tool for Jewish evangelism if used properly within its Biblical context. Testimonial evidence for רזא דשלושא as a successful evangelical tool with new Israeli Messianic Jews coming to faith in Jerusalem at the CMJ’s Christ Church will also be included. As an ordained Messianic Jewish rabbi, practicing for over 25 years and an ABD doctoral student at CIU, I have dedicated my life’s work to Jewish evangelism and the salvation of my Jewish people. This project seeks to add to the field of knowledge of evangelism to the Jewish people by introducing a theological tool that will overcome misunderstandings and worldviews that are inaccurate; preventing Jews from considering Jesus as the Messiah and Christians from fulfilling their mandate to provoke Israel to jealousy.
