The goal of this paper is to develop a reformed catholic model of sanctification. I will advance that we need a specific theory of virtue formation with a critical reception of infused habits that is not necessarily contrary to a reformed anthropology. With the help of John Owen and Peter Vermigli, I will defend an appropriation of infused habits in a construction of a reformed catholic model of sanctification.
In order to defend this thesis I will first show through Vermigli that reformed anthropology is not overly pessimistic. Second, on the other side, I will show how the promise of infused habits is a helpful aid in providing a metaphysics of human growth that is not necessarily Pelagian. Finally, I with these two premises in mind, I think we are able to discuss sanctification in a manner that transcends the usual models of sanctification discussed in modern evangelical paradigms.
